King Springs

King Springs is a leading manufacturer of aftermarket coil springs and from their headquarters in Queensland are a global provider of coil springs for all manner of vehicles and uses. Whether you own a daily-driver that sits just a little too high a 4WD that needs a bump in ride-height a performance car requiring stiffer springs for better handling or something for out-and-out motorsport use King Springs have a coil spring to suit you.

Changing Springs

There are several reasons why you might want to change the coil springs in your vehicle. The first would be based around lowering a vehicle's ride-height to improve handling by lowering the centre of gravity. It goes without saying that springs which bring about a reduction in ride-height can also give your vehicle a better overall look when it sits lower too!

Another reason to change springs also centres around ride-height but this time raising instead of lowering; if your standard springs have sagged over time then a set of fresh springs can restore a vehicle to its original height for example. Then there's those who need additional ground clearance whether it's for a commercial vehicle carrying or towing hefty loads or owners of 4WD off-road vehicles needing extra height to negotiate tricky terrain.

Finally there's the improvements to handling that new coil springs can provide either by way of the aforementioned reduction in ride-height bringing about a change to the centre of gravity and of course greater handling and stability via extra stiffness in spring rate not to mention better anti-roll capabilities too.

Progressive Rate Springs

Just throwing a set of much stiffer and shorter springs into a vehicle isn't always a wise move - it's far too easy to compromise such factors as ride comfort by going too stiff in the spring-rate hamper the shock-absorbers' ability to control the vehicle's response to bumps and even run the risk of incorrect springs no longer staying captive over large bumps (a scary proposition!).

This is where the King Springs Progressive Rate springs come into their own as the tapered wire progressive rate nature of their design increases spring-rate when you need it and decreases when you don't. The Progressive Rate springs give you the best of both worlds the spring behaves close to the original rate under normal conditions - and the critical phase for ride comfort from the point of travel back to a steady state - and only increases in spring-rate when the extra stiffness is actually needed. For example if a car originally uses 120lb/in springs an aftermarket conventional spring may be in the region of 180lb/in the King Springs Progressive Rate springs would provide a spring rate that varies from 130lb/in under normal conditions right through to 180/in or even 200lb/in when asked to.

The King Springs Progressive Rate springs aren't suitable for all applications but their progressive nature means a limited number of progressive-rate springs can be used in a variety of vehicles and applications.

Understanding King Springs Part Numbers

King Springs use an easy to follow part numbering system to help customers know what type of springs they are purchasing simply look for the letters below in the part number.
