Description
Ignition coils are available in various configurations. Older, more traditional ignition systems commonly use what is referred to as "dumb" coils. These coils are located remotely and work in conjunction with a separate distributor and individual leads to provide ignition to each cylinder. In contrast, some newer vehicles adopt a "batch fire" or "wasted spark" system, where a single coil is shared between a pair of cylinders, such as the trusty Magna V6 6G72 engine. However, most contemporary models manufactured within the past 20 years typically employ a "coil-on-plug" or "direct ignition" system. In this setup, the coil and lead are combined into a compact assembly that directly attaches to the spark plug on top of each cylinder.
If an ignition coil or coil pack fails or malfunctions in a vehicle, it can result in a weak ignition spark. This can lead to error codes in newer models, limitations in RPM or power output, especially under heavy loads, or even prevent the engine from starting altogether.
Bosch provides a wide range of ignition coils designed to accommodate the majority of vehicles in the Australian fleet. To find the appropriate ignition coil for your specific vehicle, you can simply enter your vehicle registration information using the "Add your Vehicle" tab at the top of this page. Alternatively, you can provide the make, model, and series of your vehicle to refine your search and locate the suitable ignition coil for your unique vehicle.
