When water gets into your fuel, it can cause big problems over time. A fuel water separator is designed to remove water and contaminants and ensure only clean fuel is delivered to your engine. Water and contaminants can interfere with your fuel's protective lubricative coating and this can cause surface pitting, tolerance erosion, loss of fuel pressure and poor performance.

Today, many manufacturers make fuel water separators and all are made to a similar design. The first stage of filtration is for the water to pass through a paper filter that transforms water particles into droplets that are heavy enough to fall into a water sump at the bottom of the filter. A silicon treated nylon device then prevents smaller particles from passing into the engine. Without a fuel separator, your engine would start to deteriorate very rapidly.
