About Brake Fluid
Brake fluid is a type of hydraulic fluid that converts the force exerted by your foot on the brake pedal to hydraulic pressure that enable your brakes to function. Most brake fluids are hygroscopic in nature meaning that they absorb moisture over time (via the brake lines, the atmosphere etc., and from vapourisation under heavy use) which inhibits the fluid's ability to transfer force - the end result is brakes that don't work effectively...!
All brake fluids need to be changed at regular intervals; every 1 to 2 years is recommended by most manufacturers, much more frequently if you drive fast, tow loads or need to use heavy brake applications on a regular basis.
Our Range of Brake Fluid
Brake fluid, which can also be used with most hydraulic clutch systems, comes in a range of viscosities but the most common in use today are referred to as DOT 3 and DOT 4. At Automotive Superstore, we offer the full range of brake fluids from names you know and trust, like Castrol, Mobil, Valvoline, Nulon and Bendix in a range of sizes from 250ml all the way to 20 litres!
