A throttle position sensor (sometimes abbreviated to TPS) monitors throttle input from the driver and, through the ECU, tells the fuel injection system what power demands are being made of the engine. This information allows the injection system to deliver the right amount of fuel vapour into the cylinders with the goal of balancing power and fuel economy. Without the throttle position sensor doing its job a whole host of problems can develop.
