Description
The M81 Throttle Controller represents the very latest in throttle controller technology, packaged in the neatest form factor and featuring an industry leading full colour high resolution TFT LCD screen. Equipped with all the settings you need and none you don't, the M81 Throttle Controller provides a supremely simple solution to the most common needs for a modified throttle profile.
Traditional throttles were simply operated by a cable running from the accelerator pedal to the throttle itself, attached to a ‘wheel’ or bell crank. Pushing the pedal would pull the cable, and in turn pull the wheel attached to the throttle blade, letting more air into the engine. While the axis of the throttle wheel could be changed and preset by the manufacturer, this is like playing piano with a broom, as the interaction between foot and engine opening is fixed. Modern cars using electronic controlled throttles (or referred to as Drive By Wire) open up to the possibility of tuning the pedal-throttle relationship, allowing the driver to completely transform the character of the vehicle.
Driving Modes
The M81 features 8 throttle base maps specially tuned to provide the perfect throttle response for virtually any situation, application, or terrain, whether it be at the lights, up the side of a mountain, off the beaten track, down at the boat ramp or anywhere else you might benefit from a softer or more aggressive throttle response.

Race mode brings a huge boost to all throttle positions, giving more throttle at across the rev range, focusing on maximising low-to-mid throttle inputs.
Eco mode dulls the throttle response across the map, reducing the instantaneous addition of fuel, meaning only light throttle inputs will result in lower engine demand, meaning less fuel will be used in normal driving circumstances. Full throttle will still elicit maximum performance, so thoughtful overtaking is not compromised
Sport mode realises a marked increase in throttle respond across the rev range, enhancing spirited driving under optimal condition. Lower throttle inputs are beefed up, giving improved engine response at the flick of a toe.
4x4 Crawl mode makes rock hopping a shed load easier, by minimising throttle opening, accidentally mashing the throttle will no longer result in unwanted wheel spin or digging a rut requiring full recovery.
Intelligent mode is an adaptive program that tailors throttle enhancements to your particular throttle style, gradually fine tuning to get the best of fine pedal corrections and confident overtaking manoeuvres. Simply put, the more you train it, the better it gets.
Anti-Skid mode works in opposite of sport or race mode, by sharply reducing very low throttle position output. This reduces the chance of wheel spin, allowing road speed to increase before putting down the power, making jerky gear changes or sudden responses to road conditions no longer a hazard in the wet.
Towing mode retains normal functionality for low throttle for keeping up with normal traffic, but gives a bigger boost at higher throttle position, making overtaking or compensating for steeper hills easier to contend with.
As the name implies ‘off’ disables any interference from the controller, giving a linear relationship between pedal and throttle position.
High Resolution TFT LCD Screen
The M81 throttle controller possesses a full colour TFT LCD screen, configurable with several graphic user interfaces. The driver is able to select from a range of 6 digital gauges for at-a-glance confirmation of performance, economy and other variables.
Driving Displays
Perhaps the most desirable unique selling point of the M81 throttle controller when compared to alternatives is its full colour screen and configurable graphic user interface, which allows users to select from a range of six digital gauges for at a glance confirmation of what the throttle controller is doing. The M81 throttle controller even provides a few auxiliary features designed to enhance the security and efficiency of your vehicle.

Extra functions
The M81 Throttle Controller also possesses other useful functions, changing the overall driving characteristic of the vehicle, as well as enhancing security and assisting in performing maintenance duties.
Sensitivity presets
Overall throttle sensitivity can be adjusted with the ‘AT’ Automatic Transmission or ‘MT’ Manual Transmission mode. Instead of overwhelming the end user with endless sensitivity toggles, the M81 unit does away with a difficult to interpret range and allows for two settings well suited to automatic or manual transmission equipped vehicles, letting you focus on the which driving mode suits the present conditions.
Anti-theft mode
As throttle inputs are now purely electronic, it is a simple matter to disable the throttle outright, meaning that even if basic security protocols are defeated and a car can be hotwired, or even just with stolen keys, the throttle controller can be used to disable the pedal completely, meaning that you can simply park the car, enable the mode and hide the controller, not worry about the car being started.
Carbon cleaning mode
Modern cars focus on delivering peak torque at lower RPM, as well as using more gears to minimise emissions, fuel consumption and NVH. Coupled with direct injection, which means fuel is no longer being sprayed into the intake manifold, newer engines are prone to carbon build-up. While carbon deposits are largely harmless and inert, severe buildup in the intake manifold can reduce airflow into specific cylinders, compromising engine performance and adversely affected fuel-air mixtures. Intake valves can be coated on their top side, preventing them from closing properly, lowering engine compression, and therefore performance, or conversely, the piston crowns can be covered, randomly increasing static compression, which in worst cases can result in catastrophic engine failure with a single bad batch of fuel.
The carbon cleaning mode enables incredibly sharp throttle response, allowing the user to quickly blast out growing deposits, which coupled with a suitable intake cleaner product can dramatically brighten the engines future prospects.
Simple Installation
The M81 throttle controller works by intercepting the signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor, so installation is a simple matter of unplugging the body harness from the pedal and connecting the supplied harness inline. This non-invasive installation also means easy removal, and no damage to your vehicle.
Installation position is up to the user, with a long cable and small, lightweight design enabling you to select a suitable position based on your visibility and access needs. The zinc coated aluminium case presents well, whilst not stealing premium space on the dashboard.
