Chrysler Valiant

The Chrysler Valiant holds a special place in Australian motoring history, arriving in 1962 and quickly earning a reputation for strength, comfort and effortless performance. Sold through Chrysler Australia, the Valiant became a serious rival to Holden and Ford, offering roomy family transport with a distinctly American flavour. Early models such as the R Series are now highly collectible, especially because only a limited number were sold locally. Later AP, VC, VE, VF, VG, VH, VJ, VK and CL series cars helped cement the Valiant as a dependable choice for country drivers, towing duties and long highway trips.

One of the Valiant’s most celebrated features was its engine range, particularly the legendary Hemi six introduced in the VG. Available in several capacities, including the popular 245 and 265 cubic inch versions, it delivered excellent torque and surprising performance. The Charger coupe, based on Valiant engineering, became a cultural icon, with the famous “Hey Charger” advertising campaign still remembered by Australian enthusiasts. Performance variants like the E38 and E49 Charger also gave Chrysler genuine Bathurst credibility.
