The Nissan Datsun 240K holds a special place in Australian motoring history, blending Japanese reliability with the long bonnet, pillarless hardtop style and smooth six cylinder performance that buyers loved in the 1970s. Sold locally in sedan and coupe forms, the 240K was powered by Nissan’s respected L24 2.4 litre inline six, related to the engine family that helped make the Datsun 240Z famous. With rear wheel drive, comfortable touring manners and elegant Skyline based styling, it became a desirable alternative to larger local cars, offering a refined balance of performance, economy and everyday usability.

Enthusiasts know the 240K as part of the Skyline family, and that connection gives it genuine cultural significance. In Japan it was tied to the C110 Skyline generation, remembered for its distinctive “Kenmeri” identity and motorsport inspired image. While Australia did not receive the legendary GT-R version, the local 240K still carried the same unmistakable design language, making clean examples increasingly collectible today. Coupes are especially sought after, with their frameless doors, sweeping rear quarter lines and classic chrome detailing attracting restorers and JDM fans alike.
