CarAdvice Alpine 79 Series Landcruiser Build

We chose the Alpine 9 inch HEMA Perfect Fit solution for this vehicle to give the very best of on-road, off-road and everyday functionality. To start with, this unit has superior integration into the 79 Series dash board and displays everything beautifully on the Extra-Large 9 inch screen. While a big screen is a fantastic feature, this vehicle needed even more to suit the intended purpose of going off-road in true 4WD style.

Again the Alpine LC70-X902D delivers with built-in HEMA topographical maps at your fingertips for an unparalleled 4WD experience. Additional touring features included in the on-board street navigation are Caravan and Camping sites plus 4WD track search to get you to your ideal spot with ease. When you arrive, backing up to the site or even attaching your hitch is easily visible with the added Alpine Multi-view camera.

For everyday use the Alpine system also offers built-in DAB+ Digital Radio as well as the latest sort-after smartphone integration features, supporting both Apple CarPlay, Android Auto allowing certain apps from your phone to be displayed and controlled on the unit such as: Spotify, Waze. There's no doubt that we've gone for the best-of-best in selecting the right unit for this great build with CarAdvice.

Now that the technology and connectivity is sorted, it's time to bring the audio side of things into the 21st century with a huge improvement in overall sound with our amplifier, speaker and subwoofer upgrade.

While there is no doubt that Toyota know how to design and build a tough off-road workhorse, providing great sound is something that seems to get left behind. Now thanks to our friends at ASV we now have a platform to easily and neatly add range of seriously great sounding speakers and subwoofers thanks to their range of custom made door panels and subwoofer boxes for the 79 Series. What’s more is these panels are all made in Australia from tough quality plywood and trimmed to match the interior colours of the vehicle.

For the front stage, we have gone with the Hi-Res Alpine R-Series components speakers comprising of a 6.5 inch driver and a separate to provide the driver with exceptional all-round sound quality especially in the vocals and higher frequencies. Installed with the ASV Dual-Cab Door front panels, the team from CarAdvice even chose not to retain the factory door pockets for a really clean look and to accentuate the quality and craftsmanship of the panels. 

In the rear doors, the matching High-Resolution R-Series coaxial speakers were chosen due to their all-round sound characteristics and superior vocal reproduction. Using coaxial speakers in the rear doors make for a nice clean look with the tweeter located within the speaker itself and looking great on the ASV rear door panels.

While we now have great sounding speakers in the vehicle, it’s time to take it to the next level and complete the system by adding and amplifier and a 10 inch subwoofer. Where can you fit a 10 inch subwoofer in a 70 series? Well thanks again to our friends at ASV, this is possible thanks their range of custom made subwoofer enclosures for the 70 series that fit neatly and hidden away behind the rear seat, which in our case also gives us a clean position to mount the 5 channel amplifier powering the system.

The team at ASV have meticulously designed and refined the single 10 inch subwoofer enclosure for which the internal volume and port has been crafted specifically to suit the R-Series slim subwoofer. This allows for not only fitting the sub behind the seat but also and very importantly to get the maximum performance in bass response.

When designing any audio system, using a high quality amplifier is an extremely important component to producing high quality sound. For this reason we have stepped it up and installed the premium and High-Resolution certified X-Series 5 channel amplifier. The X-A90V amplifier produces beautiful quality sound thanks to its extremely low harmonic distortion and high dampening factor and thanks to its compact design, the entire system is powered from a single amplifier. With the use of high-quality Stinger RCA cables and power cables we are able to complete the system. Finally, with use of the oscilloscope we can accurately set gain and crossover points using the amplifiers the variable crossovers and sub-sonic filter.

Note: Alpine SWR-T10 has since been discontinued. All bundles have been replaced with Kenwood 1000W KFC-WPS1000F.
